About Adam Moran:

Team photographer at Burton Snowboards.

For the documentary photographer, access is usually the key to successful image making. But for Adam Moran, a photographer who has been documenting snowboarding for the past five years from the deeply embedded position, access, as it were, has only undescored his evolving vision.

Unlike the mainstream photojournalist who approaches each assignment from the outside, Moran comes from within. He is a snowboarder, he is a voracious traveler, he is home in the mountains and on the road. When you look at his images, what you see is what he sees. Honest, raw and familiar. Moran is the rare participant-observer and in sharing his perspective on snowboarding through photography, he has enriched the visual landscape of action sports media. Blending dramatic action photography with a candid documentary style, his images continue to transform the personal into the universal.

Moran’s ability to artfully capture both the athleticism and the emotion in snowboarding reveals his awareness and deep connection to the culture of the sport. In this light, Moran expands the scope of his chosen subject itself, making images that are transcendent and therefore compelling to all who view them.
